The two most important patterns at this level are the naked single and the hidden single. A naked single is a cell where only one digit is possible. A hidden single is a digit that can only go in one particular cell within a row, column, or box. If you can spot both patterns, you can solve any easy puzzle.
Tips for beginners
Work with one digit at a time and see where it already appears on the board. If the digit 5 appears in two of the three boxes in a row, you know a lot about where the 5 has to go in the last box. Feel free to use notes to keep track of which digits are possible in each cell, even though easy puzzles can usually be solved without them.
